Last week, I visited Hong Kong, Macau, and Shenzhen, so here are some random photos from the trip.
I saw Mongolia for the first time from a plane!

Kublai: YAAAAYY!!!
I flew directly from New York to Hong Kong, which took around 16 hours and is the maximum possible jetlag. My plan? I’m terrible at falling asleep, so I tried to use that to my advantage. I stayed up for the whole flight (writing Lean obviously) and went 24 hours without any sleep, although my eyes hated it and started feeling like an acid burn. Upon arriving at the hotel at 8 PM Hong Kong time, I slept immediately, although I surprisingly still had some trouble falling asleep since it was morning back in New York. Basically, I concentrated all the jetlag onto the flight and the next day I was perfectly adjusted.

Kublai: YAAAAYY!!!
I received a warm welcome to Hong Kong in the form of a lovely typhoon. The Hong Kong Observatory rated it a 10/10, would recommend.
After the typhoon, most restaurants were closed, so I had to settle for KFC. At least they had… pistachio egg tarts?
“Weak Room” will always be my favorite, but “Cylinder Room” is definitely a close second.
I visited Macau, which surprisingly has stuff other than casinos, such as Portuguese ruins, gateball courts, and this park at night which seems sketchy but actually had quite a few people.
Macau is so beautiful.
I saw that this restaurant’s name was written in simplified Chinese, so I went inside and sure enough the staff inside spoke Mandarin instead of Cantonese. Good for me, since I don’t know any Cantonese.
Turns out Macau has statues of Guanyin too.
Some workers deflating weird blobby things in front of an art museum in Macau.
At this nice little garden, I saw two people doing dressed in kitschy pseudo-traditional costumes and obviously fake swords doing a photo shoot.

Kublai: Wait, hold up, something doesn’t seem right!
Ha yeah, this photo is actually from New York, not Asia. I just threw it in for fun.

Kublai:
That crazy building is the Shenzhen Civic Center.
One shocking thing about Shenzhen is that most of the cars are EVs! That made the streets oddly quiet, except for the honking sounds. Even the Hong Kong airport had BYD electric cars on the tarmac.
Shenzhen definitely feels like stepping into a near-future sci-fi book where the author was confused about whether their book should be a utopia or dystopia.
3D hologram fans at the Huaqiangbei electronics market! It looks better in person, I swear. Although… they aren’t 3D and they aren’t holograms. This market is huge and apparently even sells liquid cooling for phones, but sadly I couldn’t find it.
A one-eared rabbit. Maybe Sydney the cat ate the other ear.
Obviously the whole purpose of this trip was to buy Hong Kong anime girl soy sauce, but sadly it seems like it was only a limited edition thing for the Dragon Boat Festival. That company had a more recent set of limited edition designs for this year’s Chinese New Year, but that was also a few months ago.
However, I somehow accidentally ran into an anime convention in Shenzhen, so hence the photo of some cosplayers at a restaurant.
Colorful lights at night in Shenzhen.
It’s macaroni chicken soup, at a Hong Kong McDonalds!
